Yeah, it seeeeems like what they were talking about was that the story would go from one case to another, but not necessarily you the player.

I hope that’s what they mean anyway.

and will cole also have a safe-house?

I reckon restaurants will come in handy when needing a quick health boost...and bars I suppose, depends if you're up for going down the alcoholic; bi-polar; detective route.

Ha, I love the idea of being able to sleep at your work desk. That would be epic

There isn't a health bar, the screen will fade to shades of black and white when taking direct hits or health loss and regenerate when not, obviously. I'm sure there will be many cafes, bar and restaurants but not for eating, either crime scenes or checking on possible witness's/clues.

Again I think this is meant to feel and play more like a movie then a GTA style game, after all they are being featured in this years Tribeca Film Festival showing how the lines are being blurred between film and gaming.

On the subject of safehouses, here's a quote from R* Y on the Newswire, which rules out buyable property.

R* Y Wrote:L.A. Noire is ... designed to be a crime thriller experience really making you feel like you’re a detective pursuing and solving cases. So you won’t be buying safehouses or getting drunk or going to the movies.

You can explore to your heart's content during these points - and there are rewards for doing so, such as discovering landmarks or being able to foil other developing crimes - but the game isn't open-world. Once the case is closed you're straight onto the next: no stopping for a game of pool or an after-dark horizontal jogging session with a lady of the night."

From PlayStation Magazine UK, where they played the first case in L.A. Noire.

That kind of sucks, I was hoping to look around L.A., go to restaurants, listen in at jazz clubs, etc. I'm pretty sure cops have lives outside of the LAPD HQ. But whatever, it'll still be great.

Again great minds. I agree with you, and adding to your list, some 40's burlesque shows? Hot Dita Von Teese type women? I wouldn't be saying no. But alas, unlocking land marks and finding golden film canisters is as exciting as free roam is gonna get. But my question is why? Why not add things like this in? Too busy in conjunction with the game cases? Because I really think the type of gamers playing this would be able to manage a few bars, restaurants and jazz clubs. It would add a whole level of realness even more then it already is. That type of stuff is what makes games like GTA and RDR from great to fantastic and better then their competitors. Confused

You'll probably just save in between missions and at the police department.

I fully expected not a lot of free roaming to happen, though I do wish there was.

I know what you're saying, but Rockstar have made it pretty clear that this isn't a game where the player has vices such as drinking, going out with friends, etc. I, myself, would love to see all of the aforementioned things as well, but I think the gameplay will be compelling enough to keep us all interested for a while.

RE: eat & sleep?
There will be plenty of "free roaming" in the game. It's just not a sandbox.

Think of it less like GTA and more like True Crime: Streets of LA. You could free roam to your heart's content in that game, but there weren't activities like bars and strip clubs. It was just an open city for you to explore.

That's what this will be.

It seems that people care more about quantity over quality. Enjoy LA, it's beautiful. The missions might cover all of the land area so we might not need to free roam.

But that's the thing with GTA and RDR (and similar R* games) they have quantity and quality! Is it too hard to ask for both?! Nah LAN is gonna be fucking awesome and we wont care that there wont be bars and strip clubs and such, the crime scenes are gonna be quite varied and extensive. They will not let us down. (Or they better not) nah again I highly doubt they will, since when did a R* game let us down?

The story will be compelling whether or whether not free roam will be there, I can't imagine Cole Phelps renting out a studio flat sipping bacardi on a balcony and enjoying the scenery of LA. That would be too gimmicky for this sort of game but I see where people are coming from when there's too much room and nothing much to do. I think there would be a lot to do on the side, just not as much as Red Dead Redemption but it definantely won't dissapoint.

RE: eat & sleep?
^ What game let you rent studio flats and sip Bacardi? I want it!

Lets just hope it has the right amount of free roam and the right amount of linear to make it GREAT. Though I do love my sandbox (yes yes I know this isn't sandbox) types games to have heaps of things to achieve before you receive 100%. Maybe this will be my first 100% completion game, apart from GTA IV and God knows how I won those damn pool games and got that final unique jump off the freeway (I swear it took at least 50 tries).

GTA and RDR are probably the only games I worked at getting 100% for. They should make the 100% a challenge but I don't see how that works with the choice based gameplay.. Maybe it takes more than one playthrough

-I want to sip some Bacardi though

RE: eat & sleep?
Maybe, RDR Undead Nightmare 100% was EASY. But GTA and RDR I did struggle on a few things and I'm still not 100% on RDR since I'm so shit at poker and can't win the Blackwater's poker game (damn you).

Hmm ... welcome to the Latin quarter ... making me thirsty.

Not necessarily on mafia 2 at the end of a mission it just told you to go home and to go to sleep and when you woke up the next mission began.

Yes, but Mafia II kind of sucked and it was a completely different game than what L.A. Noire will be. We shouldn't compare these two games just because they're set around the same time period.

RE: eat & sleep?
The openesss of L.A. noire is down to you my friends in fact to see it all you'll have to play through the game a few times its been confirmed in a few of the trailers for the game.

Cases depending of the line of inquiry you take will lead you to various locations ie. if you think the postman did it you'll probaly visit his house or his place of work though if you think the victims mistress down at the local parlour was involved your going there.

But say you question each suspect and do not manage to make them give up some information were will you go now with no leads perhaps one of them might have told you the victim owed money to mickey cohen if only you had been a bit more convincing?

You can even mess up a case by pinning it on the wrong guy (the real crook gets away with it) meaning you will have to do it again either from a save point (cheating blah) or on your next play through.

i belive this game will be more opened ended than most people think with real reasons to go to places rather than too see if there's some pigeons too shoot Wink
