Shocked odd game
Someone once said, that angry forum posts are a sign that the person not only cared about the game but also that cared enough to register on a forum and post instead of just [ignore].
If some of my comments sound angry please keep that in mind.

I am not going to start off with "this game could have been great but its rubbish because ..." because that wouldn't be honest.
I think the game is great. popping textures, non-nonsensical dialog, annoying 3d, weird save/load mechanic, (insert random complaint), etc., included, the game is great.
I play the game in 3d with a full walk through on a second screen. With the way load/save behaves and no way(?) to skip cut scenes, which makes partial replays annoying as hell, that was the only way i could enjoy the game.
So despite the game being a bit rough and bumpy i have a great time and for everything odd there is something that amazes me.

And then i get to Vice ...
I am working for/with a guy that i despise and the first cut scene i want to shoot him. So i go online and dig around a bit on the wiki to see how long i have to deal with this.
And i read that this guy is corrupt, blackmails the entire chain of command and ruins cole's reputation as a cover up?! Blink
... and you basically have to deal with him until the end and he reads your funeral speech!

I don't know who came up with this story line, but honestly if i wanted to work for someone i hate, do a job that is pointless (as results don't matter if you've got random scapegoats), put my life on the line for something i don't believe in, protect the wicked and greedy and punish the poor .... i would play a game called real life. Suicidal

So instead of putting another 30 hours or something into the game only to die at the end and get a mediocre cut scene for my troubles i pretend that the game ended after homicide with Cole saving the day by solving the BD murders.

Great game and uninstalled after 2nd act.

just a hint: medieval/fantasy RPGs are the hit, why? because they don't deal with the plague or greed of the clergy, the dark side of war and death but with things like honor, saving fair maidens, beating impossible odds, winning the throne, adventure, mystery and freedom. They weren't called the dark ages for nothing (and f*** all freedom was around then)
I am not suggesting to ditch authenticity or dumb down culture but there is a big difference between reliving a past period of history and masochistically trudging through all the bad things that don't exist anymore today precisely because they aren't nice and enjoyable.
There are quite a few indi games that get this right while being enjoyable and historically accurate.

RE: odd game
A cruel twist in the end is a staple of the film noire genre. I'd say that it worked, if you felt that tension.

RE: odd game
Whatever, bro. This is an awesome game. It's gritty and it's real and it's intelligent. I cannot abide fantasy games, i prefer realism and a good story...if the ending irked you that doesn't mean you've just played a bad game, it means you gave enough of a damn to get annoyed that it didn't go the way you wanted it to. This game accomplished it's mission. It's everything i love in a game and then some.
