Patch Problem
Hello everybody,

I've recently bought L.A. Noire,but I came across a problem.
I've bought the retail version(Not the Steam version)

My installation went fine, but when I run the game it asks for a mandatory patch to be installed. So I click on install, first It will download it and the bar just goes to 100%,then I get the windows error sound and my game switches to the main screen of my computer. When switching back I notice the patch has failed giving me the following message: timed out waiting for the patch to install filename:Patch_2382_02393_1.exe

I've tried allot of things including:
-running as admin
-installing in C/Program Files/RockstarGames/L.A.Noire
-shutting down the virus scanner and firewall
-several times of uninstalling/restarting
Rockstar sais I have to remove the .patched files, unfortunetly I don't have those. They also say I have to remove the social club.exe file. I don't have it aswell.

This is my L.A. Noire folder in Program Files:

As you can see,no .patched files, and no Social club

So I'm pritty much stuck right now,and I hope anyone can help me.

Thanks in advance

Rickus

RE: Patch Problem
I am having the exact same problem. I have a disk version (not steam)

Every solution I find for this says to delete .patched files. I don't have any. I also do not have the social club.exe file to delete.

Because I do not have these, I persumed if I just ran the patch it would allow it to be installed, however this does not happen. I select it, my cursor shows the 'loading' sign for a little, and then nothing happens.

I checked task manager, and the patch is stuck at CPU usage 16 and between 16,000kb and 14,000kb memory usage. As you will know, generally when a program/install/whatever you are loading....works, the CPU usage will go up and memory usage will go up. This just sticks on the same, and doesn't load/install.

I have also reinstalled many times, turned off firewalls and added exceptions into my comodo, with no fix.

Unless I re-install the entire game so it tries to redownload the mandatory patch again, my game does not load and crashed to my desktop.

RE: Patch Problem
I am going to try launching the patch with all my anti-viruses and firewalls disabled. I also have comodo running so I am going to add a exception for the patch .exe in there and see if the patch runs.

Because I too cannot find those files to delete, I thought i'd skip to running the patch. When I try running, i had get the same problem that I had with the initial game launch, it load up, and got stuck in my task manager doing nothing.
To fix that, I added the exception to comodo, so I am going to try it for this and let you know if it is solved.

RE: Patch Problem
Thanks for the help!

I hope you get it running as soon as possible.
Good thing for me was that I've got another computer, installed it on that one and it worked! But a new problem popped up .It didn't work good enough. I got like 10 fps, so I deciced to buy a new graphics card.It was needed anyway.
Can anyone tell me if it will do? (Not on highest settings but just without the damn low fps)

I've bought this card:
Asus Radeon HD 6670, 1GB, GDDR5
I've got 4GB of Ram (3 Available)
And my processor is:
Pentium® Dual-Core CPU E5400 @ 2.70GHz 2.70 GHZ

If anyone could tell me if it could run,you would make me verry happy.

RE: Patch Problem
I've been having the exact same thing happen to me. Everytime I fire up the game (whether I run as Admin or not), it starts up fine but then I load into the neon LA Noire sign and the Social Club interface pops up and says error retrieving patch details and then after that I can't do anything. I'm running Windows Vista, and have also tried disabling my Anti-Virus and turned off my FirewallSad such a bummer too...really wanted to play this one.

RE: Patch Problem
I had the same problem, tried everything you wrote about, tried all solutions on Rockstar support.
Tried over and over again and it still didn´t work.

Finally i just (still i had my antivirus and firefall down) replaced the folder to

C:\L.A. Noire

and it finally worked for me Smile

You might also need to rename the folder to LA Noire or LANoire. Good luck!

RE: Patch Problem
Hey all,

I was having the exact same issue for weeks. The patch files/ypatcher just making a windows error noise when you click on them and also getting stuck on the LA Noire Neon Sign.

I also have the Retail CD version. I found out after hours and frustration that it was ZoneAlarm Firewall (which i had disabled) blocking the ypatcher and the patch files.

If you have a firewall such as ZoneAlarm installed try adding the game (and ypatcher & patch files) to the exceptions list. If this doesn't work uninstall the firewall completely and then reboot your computer.

Make sure you have checked all AntiVirus's and firewalls installed on your computer as i had AVG, ZoneAlarm, CCleaner and Super AntiSpyware all installed but ZoneAlarm was where the issue was at. Since uninstalling ZoneAlarm the game runs perfectly and the issue is gone.

Hope this helps,

Jirarf.

RE: Patch Problem
I seem to be having a very similar problem to everybody else, I have purchased the retail version of the game and after completing installation I click launch game in the start-up menu only to have nothing happen.
I have tried all of these individually and together;
-"run as" administrator
-turning off firewall
-installing in C:/program files/Rockstar Games/L.A. Noire
-installing in C:/L.A. Noire
-clicking run in 256 colour
-clicking run in 640x480
-going into the game files and manually installing Directx etc...
-uninstalling my anti-virus
-and re-installing countless times...
I know my system is capable as I have greater than the recomended recquirements for running the game. If anybody could help it would be greatly apreciated, I waited a large portion of last year to have this come out on PC... this is not how I pictured my time using it.

So nothing at all happens when you launch the game? have you checked that you havn't got a firewall still running in your processes. Sometimes you can close them down but they still run hidden in the background.

As your issue is a bit different it may be caused by something else but from the sounds of it the game is either blocked by a certain application you have installed or a DX issue. What OS are you running it on?

Yep, nothing at all, Ill click the launcher on the desktop, the start-up menu shows (options, read-me, play game etc..) will show. I click play game and the little loading icon shows up next to my cursor for about 5 seconds then nothing happens, I just remain at my desktop. I am running on windows 7 home premium. I also checked my processes and there is no windows firewall running.

RE: Patch Problem
I had recently had the error messages and had overcome them by doing this,
Firstly i added the Patch_2382_02614_1, and the ypatcher to the exceptions in the antivirus program.
From C:/program files/Rockstar Games
I deleted the social club folder, i don't know if that was necessary then went into the L.A. Noire folder and deleted all the patched files, and deleted the social club setup file, next i re patched using the, Patch_2382_02614_1 file,
when the patch finished it put another social club setup file into the L.A. Noire
folder, and then i reinstalled social club from the L.A. Noire folder.
Hopefully this helps someone else.

RE: Patch Problem
Firstly you must be sure all the files install from the disks, took five tried for me to get the Patcher to run correctly

then all anti virus must be off, then if the patch wont run, manually run it from the install folder, ditto for the update to Social Club. Then if you have at least XP SP3 and a decent video card and at least 15 GB FREE on the hard drive it should run fine.

the instructions from the previous poster should set you up fine....re the patching problem...

RE: Patch Problem
I came across this post on another forum after hours of trying the various solutions offered on this forum and on Rockstar support and this was the only one that worked. I am ecstatic and I thought I might as well share it here after seeing the number of people who went through hell trying to play this game. Here is the original post.

Ok. So i went out an purchased L.A Noire at JB. And when i installed the patch failed and i got stuck at the neon loading screen for hours. I had that problem over 4 installs. Anyway. How i fixed this was i installed the game normally and let the mandatory patch download. Obviously the patch failed again,so i exited the game and went to the install folder and retrieved the patch and cut it to the desktop. Then proceeded to uninstall the game. I then started a custom install, where i installed the game to c:\L.A. Noire. Then i cut the patch to the new install folder and ran the patch BEFORE i started the game. It patched fine and now the game works like a charm. If this works for anybody else spread the word.

Let me know if this worked for you guys, if you have trouble I won't mind explaining it in easier terms.

Hi, this one really worked for me. I don't really think that I would have found any other solution because I tried many ways to get the patch load and play the game itself. It was so frustrating to know it's a has to be good game, but I'm not able to play. I'm happy to say this should work, if you tried everything else !
I still want to say what I did step by step, even if it's told above:

1. I started installing the game and let the mandatory patch to download.
2. Well, the error came, but I shut the game and Patch_2382_XXXX had appeared in the folder. I copy pasted it on the desktop.
3. Then I uninstalled the game, and installed again to folder C:\L.A. Noire.
4. After that, I copied the patch file from desktop into that L.A. Noire folder.
5. I didn't start the game yet, so I started patching manually by clicking the patch. I got an error, but after I ran it as an administrator, and it patched very well.
Then I proceeded to play the game. I had an other problem while playing the game, because it was lagging badly. So I went to look for a solution, and watched youtube and found it.
1.Open the LANLauncher.exe and go to options.
2.At the bottom is 'Command line' box. Add the following: "-npd -str -nonv"
And there is also the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RsG6EGwvCA

Then it worked flawlessly.
